TOUR OVERVIEW
Situated in the northeast of Tanzania, Arusha Region is one of the country's thirty-one administrative areas. The city of Arusha is the largest and capital of the region. The region is bounded to the north by Kenya's Kajiado and Narok counties; to the east by Kilimanjaro Region; to the south by the Manyara and Singida Regions; and to the west by the Mara and Simiyu Regions.
Just outside of Arusha, snakes and reptiles are the main draw at Meserani Snake Park, which houses creatures ranging from puff adders to baby crocodiles. It’s also home to a campsite, Maasai cultural museum, craft market, and a bar decked with memorabilia and snake-themed decor. It’s not just a tourist attraction, though—the snake bite clinic provides an important service to the local community.
The Maasai Museum is located where the culture is still thriving in the heart of Maasailand at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro on the border of Kenya and Tanzania just 2 miles from Amboseli National Park that welcomes over 600,000 tourists annually. The museum is surrounded by luxurious hotels, the high traffic exposure is vital to the economic sustainability of the Museum and to sustain the Maasai livelihoods.
The Arusha Declaration Museum is located in the Kaloleni area in Arusha town. It is the first ever museum in the Arusha region and in the northern tourist circuit. The Museum is housed in the historical building which until 1967 was used as the social welfare hall for the people of the Kaloleni area. This museum was opened to the public in 1977 and it mainly exhibits the political history of our nation.
